An artist, an actress, a singer, a
single mom, an aspiring architect -- these are just some of the
past recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in
Tippecanoe County.
The Community Foundation of Greater
Lafayette has been pleased to award scholarships to eight
cohorts of Lilly Scholars. It's exciting to watch the
recipients learn and grow. New opportunities are available
because of the many doors opened by the Lilly Scholarship.
Scholars have studied abroad in New Zealand, Spain, Belize; gone
on archeology digs around the country; interned with Microsoft
in Seattle; honed singing skills in Vienna. Closer to
home, they're active college and community volunteers,
participate in sports, join coop programs, and of course study
hard. Graduates from the first few cohorts are landing
dream jobs, going to graduate school, and making future plans.
The college years have presented some personal difficulties for
some of the scholars but the scholarship has eased much of the
financial burden for them, and as one student said, "I know I
wouldn't have graduated without the Lilly Scholarship!"
The community foundation, schools, and recipients are grateful
for the terrific opportunities provided by Lilly Endowment
through the scholarships.
