   Back to Scholarship Introduction

There’s a wealth of financial aid information available and it can be confusing and overwhelming to sort through it all. If you’re interested in post-secondary education, your high school guidance counselor is an excellent starting point. For specific financial aid information from the institutions you’re interested in attending contact the financial aid office or visit their web sites. The internet and your local library are also good sources of information.

The following list of web sites is by no means comprehensive but may be helpful in locating financial aid and other college-related information. Many also contain information especially for parents.

www.fafsa.ed.gov Detailed information about FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), including how to fill it out online.  Please note:  This is the free government-sponsored site. It is not the same as fafsa.com, a for-profit website which charges a fee to fill out the free application.

www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/fsa/index.html Financial aid primer from US Department of Education and the Office of Student Financial Assistance Programs; includes information about Pell grants, Stafford loans, PLUS loans, Federal Work Study, etc.

www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/trio/index.html Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education website “administers programs to improve access to quality postsecondary education in the United States.” Includes resources for students about to attend or already attending postsecondary schools.

www.finaid.org A very comprehensive website covering all aspects of financial aid. Includes a number of calculators including need calculators and college costs projectors.

www.collegeboard.com College Board Online – learn about planning for college, picking the right school for you, how to fill out an application, paying for college, and SATs. Includes sample SAT questions.

https://www.driveofyourlife.org/launch.html  Drive of Your Life - Indiana Youth Institute, through a generous grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., has developed Drive of Your Life, an interactive Web site that can be accessed by middle school students allowing them to explore career options. This program will help engage middle school students in a fun way to think about career and college options at an earlier age, then plan their high school course schedules more intentionally.
